My Conversation on the Positively Joy Podcast

Recently, I had the honor of joining Yvette Walker on her inspiring show, the Positively Joy podcast. Yvette’s ministry is all about finding light even in life’s darkest valleys—a theme that aligns deeply with my own journey through divorce, healing, and rediscovery.
In this episode, we dug into the raw, real moments of my story: how I grew up with strong morals and a deep desire to "do good," and how my divorce came as a complete shock—upending everything I thought I knew about life, love, and even myself.
From Perfectionism to Purpose
We talked about the hidden weight of perfectionism and how it can quietly delay emotional healing after divorce and cause turbulence during divorce. For me, divorce wasn’t just the end of a relationship—it triggered a deep unraveling of my identity, self-worth, and even my faith. It was a season marked by questioning, surrender, and ultimately, growth.
One of the pivotal turning points of my divorce was allowing myself to write through it. Putting words to my pain became an anchor. That journey birthed my devotional, Wings to Rise above Divorce, a resource designed to help others rebuild from the inside out—heart, mind, and spirit.
The Healing Power of Community and Service
Yvette and I also discussed the importance of community—how DivorceCare groups and spiritual support systems gave me the space to feel, grieve, and heal. I’ve come to believe that sometimes, the most profound recovery begins not just when we seek healing for ourselves, but when we serve others walking a similar path. Yvette and I both now lead DivorceCare groups as a way to help others doing through divorce or separation.
Starting a business, writing, growing deeper in my faith, and sharing my story were all acts of reclaiming my identity in a time when I felt I had none. And now, they’ve become part of my purpose: helping others move from brokenness to breakthrough and find joy even in turbulent times like divorce.
